Studham Parish Council

A warm welcome from Studham Parish Council. We hope you find our website both useful and informative.

Studham, Anglo Saxon for “Home in the woods”, is a village situated on the northwest side of the Chiltern Hills and is the most southerly village in the county of Bedfordshire. The nearest towns are Dunstable (5 miles), Luton (6 miles) and Hemel Hempstead (6 miles); a bus runs every other hour from Dunstable to Hemel Hempstead and return.

Studham has a population of 1,180, which is centred in 4 main areas, Clements End, Holywell, Old Hill Wood and the village itself. Currently the only amenities are the Parish Church, Methodist Chapel, two Public Houses, a Nursery, a Sports and Social Club and Harpers farm shop. Studham is mentioned in the Doomsday Book as a village with several farms and two manor houses.

The centre of the village is dominated by the Common, which is divided into three by highways. It is used by most of the parishioners either as an area for walking, attending the Mayfair or playing football. There are two War Memorials, the clock being a memorial for World War I and the brick Bus Shelter for World War II.
